Create a vintage look with our durable silicone molds. Each mold, individually hand cast with care, can be used to create a finished piece or a design element of a larger creation. Enjoy the beauty and elegance of a vintage piece without the expense.
The flexibility and natural release characteristics of the silicone material allow for easy removal, so no release agent is needed for most clays. Older molds may require some release agent, such as Badger Balm.
Molds are safe for hot plates and any other heating element under 350 F. Clay can be dried in mold, on hot plate, or demolded in seconds.
Creating with Aunt Opal’s molds
Shape with Your Fingers
Roll clay into a ball and place it in the center of mold. Be sure that there are no seams in the portion of the clay that will be pressed into the texture. Press the clay down and outward into the mold using a gentle rolling motion of your finger. Finish the back of the piece one of two ways: 1) use a tissue slicing blade to cut, level, and smooth the surface or 2) smooth with your fingers and a little bit of water. Gently push edges back into the mold, if needed.
Roll and Shape
To use less clay and create a hollow form, roll clay to a thickness slightly thicker than you would like the walls of your finished piece to be. Press clay into mold using the same gentle rolling motion described above. Smooth back and edges with fingers or a tool with a round, blunt end.
Use with Textures, Cutters, and Doming Molds to Create Components
Use either of the methods described above to create your initial impression. De-mold while clay is relatively moist and finish by 1) cutting with a clay cutter, 2) draping over a Perfect-Match doming kit to trim and finish drying, or 3) gently placing a template over the piece and cutting to your desired shape and size.
Molds can be trimmed with a slicing blade to reduce depth and use less clay. Wash with warm soap and water after use. Store in a dry place.
