Getting Started with Precious Metal Clay

Fine silver earrings by Janet Alexander.

Metal clay doesn’t require the physical strength, expensive tools, or the large workspaces that traditional metal working involves. Even then, knowing where to start can be a little daunting.

So, we’ve put together some resources to help you get acquainted with metal clay. With help from the editors of Metal Clay Artist Magazine, we’ve put together some excellent projects designed to introduce you to some of the basic properties of metal clay. To make sure you have everything you need, we’ve also compiled a list of some basic tools, and created a page on best practices for handling and firing metal clay safely.

Our goal is simple: To make your first metal clay experience enjoyable and successful. We love this medium and we’re confident that you will, too.
